Perhaps many are not aware (not even the locals of Dum Dum or South Dum Dum Municipality area) that – Dum Dum Kishore Bharati was established in 1965 by Sri Mihir Sengupta (or better known as beloved “Headmastermoshai”), with just around nine students. Though numbers were not in favor, determination was. And the journey that started in 1965 has today turned in to a revolution in the form a Higher Secondary School – where focus is not only on academics, but on social responsibilities as well.

Few other than those directly associated to the school know that it is more of an institution than a school. Not many, are aware that this very school on Motijheel Avenue was built upon and still practices the values and principles of education, and life, laid down by Rabindranath Tagore. Even not many know of the plentiful extra-curricular activities that students get to be part of in this school – ranging from trekking, camping, NCC to star-gazing,quizzing, debates, cultural events, exhibition of old age coins, tournaments and so on. The khaki-clad merry band of boys are not only taught to be disciplined and successful students, rather, true human beings, who habitually plant and maintain trees along Dum Dum Road. Every time there is a natural disaster, help out by collecting rescue aids from their locality and sending them to the victims.
